Patapon Demo Mini Review
One of the most eagerly awaited games of the year has been Patapon, a new rhythm adventure. For those of you who haven’t heard of such a genre, calm down as there are not too many rhythm adventure games out there and Patapon happens to be one of the few.
In this mini review I will be writing about the Patapon demo and later on a follow up article will be ready for the full game review.
As I have said before, Patapon is a rhythm adventure, which may be a completely new genre for some gamers out there as there are not many titles conforming to this genre. What Patapon offers is an innovative gameplay in which you take the role of the Mighty Patapon, a holy, inspiring guide for the Patapons. Patapons happen to be really cute, small creatures similar in appearance to Mike in the “Monsters Inc.”, what Billy Cristal calls CBS with feet. A Patapon is actually an eye, with arms and legs. They are a tribe of warriors who march without fear and second thought to the ends of the world singing and chanting with the rhythm of the Mighty Patapon, which happen to be you.

Game demo consists of a few levels and a boss fight in which you get the basics of the game and a nice understanding of how to play. The gameplay is based on guiding the Patapons through a series of challenges with the perfect execution of rhythms with the triangle, cross, square and circle buttons. Every correct execution of a rhythm is confirmed by the Patapons accepting Mighty Patapon’s greatness and holiness with their song. This may feel repetitive when heard from someone else. In reality, it isn’t. and this is what makes the game great. The artistic effort spent for the little guys including the world created around them, their wonderful chants and awe for the Mighty Patapon and the simplicity of the game keeps you asking for more till the end of the demo.
Overall, Patapon demo kept me waiting for the full version as it happens to be the unveiling of an exclusive PSP game that seems to be well done in terms of playability and artistry.
