PSP Playing Posture
There is a very long and boring disclaimer in the PSP box which states that you shouldn’t have very long sessions of PSP action. The text states that one can have discomfort in eyes, arms, neck etc. But what is the reason for those warnings?
The problem stems from the fact that there is an inherent design problem in mobile gaming consoles. When you compare a PS3 with a PSP you can notice that PSP has both the screen and controls at the same physical space. When playing a PSP you should look where your hands are; all the time.
Human body is not designed to stay in that posture for long periods of time. Either your neck is bent too much, or your arms get tired. This is why you can’t play with your PSP long enough when you are sitting or lying back.
Uncomfortable positions are acceptable for mobile gaming since you use the console on the bus, train, in a car etc, but when you are at home there should be a solution for the problem.
The only position we could come up with is actually how you use a laptop, on a table with your arms stretched in front of you so that your neck is not bent down too much to hurt.
Please fire your thoughts into your comments to help us come up with a nice PSP playing posture. We could even come up with an idea to develop a PSP playing stand.

Ya i know what they are talking about. I can only play it for long periods of time laying down. Also it would help a lot if i were to buy the grips so it is like a ps2 controller or else it is hard to keep a grip on the PSP and still push the R1 or L1 buttons.

The ideal solution (and also the most extreme) is making a mod where a PS2 controller can be used. So you place the PSP on its transparent stand on a desk, connect the controller, lay back on chair and play.
I personally use my PSP while sitting in front of my study desk. My elbows rest on the chair arms, and my hands with the PSP rest on the desk. It’s the most comfortable position for me.

Thanks for the comments. There are some cases that provide a PS2 like grip on the market though they do not seperate the controls from the display. As Dr. Haisook has suggested there are quasi-comfortable positions for playing with the PSP, the device is not designed with ergonomics in mind but rather mobility and entertainment. Cheers to Sony ![]()
Thats a great study, I never gave a thought about it.
I go on playing the PSP for long hours by lying down.. best way, beats anything… feel uncomfortable? toss yourself around until u get so… ![]()
